Highview Stud Sires Provide Great Returns

04 March 2011

Highview Stud sires Danroad and Align once again provided very profitable results for breeders at the 2011 New Zealand Bloodstock yearling sales series at Karaka.

“The ultimate goal for every breeder is to get a profitable return at the sales on the service fees they paid and in the case of Danroad and Align this has clearly been the case,” said Highview Stud managing director Brent Gillovic.

Danroad’s top price of the sales series was $100,000 for a colt x Fashionabeel sold by Maara Grange and purchased by Ginger Tankard of Cambridge-based Waikato Bloodstock.

His Select Sale average was $46,500, a very healthy return on the $6000 service fee he stood at.

Align’s top price in the Select Sale came when Iskander Racing paid $110,000 for a colt ex Montwest. His Select Sale average was about $49,000 which represented an excellent return on the $7000 service fee.

“Both Danroad and Align consistently produce excellent results for vendors at the yearling sales and are in the top bracket of sires on a profitability basis,” said Gillovic.

Meanwhile, the response from breeders to Highview Stud’s first-season sire Sufficient last year was very promising.

“Sufficient had a quality book of more than 80 mares in his first season and this bodes well for his future career at stud,” Gillovic said.
