Coup Align Targeting $1 million Singapore Feature Invitation

12 February 2010

Outstanding South Island sprinter Coup Align has put himself right into contention for an invitation to contest the $1 million KrisFlyer Sprint in Singapore in May.

The feature Singapore race is run on May 16 and Coup Align has staked his claim for an invitation to contest the race after his latest win at Wingatui in the Eclipse Stakes. He once again ran his rivals ragged in this race with a brilliant burst of acceleration running the 1200m in 1:10.20 to win by one-and-a-half lengths.

“I just want to show the world what a good horse he is,” said Coup Align’s Riccarton trainer Michael Pitman.

Coup Align has scored other Listed race wins this season in the Pegasus Stakes and Stewards Handicap at Riccarton – both in November.

He is raced by prominent South Island owner Ray Coupland, of Christchurch, along with his partner, Jill Walls. The gelding has now won 10 of his 15 career starts.

Pitman said he would give Coup Align a week’s break and get him inoculated in the hope of gaining the Singapore invitation.

“I just have to wait now and see if he does get an invitation. I am hopeful,” Pitman said.

The son of Align was bred by Highview Stud, near Hamilton.
