Highview Stud-bred Sapelli (Flying Spur x Ishkala) continued his purple patch of form with a brilliant win in Hong Kong last Sunday.
For the John Size-trained Sapelli it represented his fourth successive victory and this came in the Class 2 HKJC Lamma Island Handicap (1650m) at the Happy Valley meeting.
Successful jockey Douglas Whyte commented after the latest win by Sapelli: "He was push button today and has become a real professional. The draw and pace helped, but he hasn't been that close in a race before without doing a few things wrong, but this time he was perfect.”
Sapelli has now picked up five wins and five minor placings from his 18 career starts.
Sapelli was bred by Highview Stud and was sold through the Highview Stud draft at the 2007 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Sale at Karaka for $170,000.
Sapelli’s dam is the Zabeel mare, Ishkala, who was a two-year-old winner and stakes performer.
Ishkala’s yearling colt by Danroad was purchased at the Karaka sales in January for $75,000 by Lance O’Sullivan. Ishkala has a weanling colt by Align and is currently back in foal to Danroad.
