The VRC Derby winning trainer, Mike Moroney, was back in the winners’ circle when the lightly-raced four-year-old son of Danroad, Linton Street (ex Sarraia), posted an emphatic victory in the A$101,500 Lavazza Amodo Mio Handicap (2800m) at Flemington on Tuesday.
Moroney said of Linton Street after the win: “He is still one preparation away from being at his best but he is a very nice type of staying horse.
“He got a lovely run and got a couple of breaks at the right time in the home straight. He quickly picked them up and went to the line full of running.
“He has not done a lot of racing and we have been patient with him because he is such a big horse and we always felt he would come into his own as a stayer,” said Moroney.
Linton Street was having only his sixth race-day start on Tuesday but the gelding proved to be superior to his rivals in the 17-horse field. Ridden by Chris Symons, Linton Street made his charge to the front in the closing stages of the race and defeated second placegetter Juan Carlos by three quarters of a length with Courtney coming home third.
Linton Street’s win was some consolation for a couple of the part-owners, the Aujards, who also have an interest in Changingoftheguard who was a race morning scratching from the Melbourne Cup under controversial circumstances.
