16 September 2009 -

At Sha Tin Racetrack in Hong Kong on Sunday night,  the HKSAR Chief Executive’s Cup, producing a thrilling finish with 6/1 chance Nightlign (NZ)  getting the verdict by a nose from the second favourite, Tuscan Spirit.

“He’s always been a nice horse, but he has had problems since arriving in Hong Kong. First he got a stress fracture shortly after he arrived here and he has had a few other things along the way which we have sorted out,” winning trainer Almond Lee said of the New Zealand-bred son of Align (Aus) who stands at Highview Stud.

“Today everything worked out for us. He had the lightest weight, a good draw, he got a nice ride from Jeff [Lloyd] and he’s won in a bob-of-heads photo," Lee said. "He is a horse going places in the future."

Nightlign was formerly trained in New Zealand by Keith Hawtin and was successful in the Gr. 1 Ford Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes as a two-year-old.
