Permanent Base Highly Likely For Danroad

Tuesday, 1 July 2008

Danroad, sire of last month's Group 1 $A505,000 T J Smith Classic winner Rockdale, will probably become permanently based in New Zealand for a few seasons.

The son of Danehill has stood in the northern hemisphere for three consecutive seasons and will return to New Zealand from Ireland at the end of this month.

"It is envisaged that this will be his last year for some time as a shuttle stallion and that from 2009 he will remain permanently in New Zealand for stud duties for at least the next few seasons," said Brent Gillovic, manager of Highview Stud which is Danroad's New Zealand home.

"It is fantastic news for New Zealand's breeding industry that we will have on-going access to an exciting young stallion like Danroad," said Gillovic.

Danroad is owned by the Hong Kong Breeders' Club which also has a one-third share in fellow  resident Highview Stud-based stallion Align.

Gillovic said Danroad is attracting great support this year from broodmare owners in New Zealand and is expected to have a full book of up to 120 mares, of a highest-ever quality, by the end of this month.
