Ruakaka trainer Donna Logan has her sights set on the Dunstan Feeds Championship series this summer with her rising staying star Align To Infinity.
Following on from an impressive win at Ruakaka a fortnight earlier, Align To Infinity again proved far too strong for his rivals over 1400m at Ellerslie on Saturday.
The Align four-year-old gelding has always had a big reputation but needed time to strengthen up, according to Logan.
“He is now a much stronger horse. He still has room to improve but he’s on the right track,” she said.
“Right from day one we have had a big opinion of him in the stable and I’m sure he is going to fulfill our belief in him,” she said.
Logan said Align To Infinity will now have a fortnight in the spelling paddock before racing again.
“He has a big summer ahead of him so there is no point in racing him too much at this point,” she said.
The Dunstan Championship series will be ideal for Align To Infinity this season.
Logan said the series, which culminates in a $100,000 final at Ellerslie, provided middle-distance staying races which will give Align To Infinity the necessary toughness he needs both mentally and physically.
“This season is all about getting him to become a professional racehorse in everything he does,” Logan said.
“Next season I believe he will be a Cups horse and he will be aimed down that track,” she said.
