Seven Winners In Sizzling September For Danroad

12 October 2009

The progeny of Danehill’s exciting sire son Danroad went on an international winning spree of epic proportions during the month of September.

In the space of only 14 days (September 16 to 30) Danroad sired an impressive total of seven individual winners in three different countries.

The purple patch for Danroad, (pictured), began when the very promising and lightly raced Laurie Mayfield-Smith trained 3yo filly, Margaret (ex Clafouti), scored over 1200m at the Brisbane race meeting on September 16.

In just three starts to date Margaret has never failed to weigh in and she looks to have a nice future.

On September 17 Danica Guy-trained Monopoly (ex Queensway) notched up her first win over 1400m at her third race-day appearance at the Taranaki race meeting. She is highly rated by her trainer who predicts a big future ahead this season.

Fran Houlihan and Brian Johnston-trained Mana Lane (ex Mana), a half-brother to the stakes winning Duke’s Deal and Via Suez, scored over 1400m at the Cranbourne meeting in Victoria on September 20 and the four-year-old followed that up with a further win at Mornington on October 6. He has now recorded three wins and three placings in his career to date.

Other winners sired by Danroad in September were Al Maaha (Banks Peninsula on September 25), Linton Street (Wangaratta on September 26), Steel Road (Moe on September 28) and Afriend (in Singapore on September 30, see separate story).

“September was another golden month for Danroad. He is siring winners everywhere week in, week out and continues to demonstrate that he is the most exciting young sire at stud in New Zealand,” said Brent Gillovic of Highview Stud, near Hamilton.

“We are very proud to have him standing at Highview Stud and he is a great asset to the New Zealand breeding industry,” Gillovic said.

Danroad is now the sire of 23 individual winners from only 45 runners – a superb strike rate of 51% (1 in every 2 runners has been a winner!).

He has already been represented by five individual stakes performers including the Group 1 winner Rockdale and Group 2 winner (and Group 1 NZ Derby runner-up) Down The Road with his other stakes performers comprising Outtalimitz, Amazing Sky and Kerilla.

Danroad is standing at a fee of $11,000 plus gst for the 2009 breeding season
