The Contessa Strikes Again for Bullbars

Bullbars filly Contessa Vanessa won her second race on end today in comfortable and convincing fashion at Pukekohe.

Following up her two and three quarter length victory over 1,000m a fortnight ago at Avondale, Contessa Vanessa was simply too good for her rivals today recording a relatively untested two and a half length win over 1,200m.  In both victories, the Graeme and Debbie Rogerson trained filly was ridden by the New Zealand's leading jockey, Chris Johnson.

Contessa Vanessa is a two year old Bullbars filly out of the Lohnro mare Di Lusso.  She was purchased out of the 2016 NZB Yearling Sales by Team Rogerson for $50,000.

Contessa Vanessa trialled very early in the season and recorded a third placing and a victory before her first raceday start.  But, as with many of Bullbars' progeny, with a little time, she has come back in her second campaign, much stronger and capable of fulfilling that early promise.

Her record now reads as two wins, a third and two fourths from six lifetime starts.  Both victories were in New Zealand Bloodstock Pearl Series races, which is a great result for her owners.  The manner of her victories suggests there could be more success to come in the late winter, early spring racing period.

Bullbars has a great second season of small initial books and at $6,000 for the new season represent great value.  He produces racehorses of either sex, capable of sprinting or staying, competitive on the full range of surfaces.  He has had two Group One performers: Sicario finished a long neck second over 1,400m and Comin'through finished a close fifth in the Queensland Derby.
