WROTE’S FUTURE LOCKED IN AT HIGHVIEW

Wrote’s long-term New Zealand future is guaranteed following a successful move by Highview.

The Irish-bred stallion was well-received by breeders in his first season, prompting farm principal Brent Gillovic to purchase the son of High Chaparral outright.

“After protracted negotiations we have managed to buy him outright,” he said.

“We’ve bought him along with Peter Yip of the Hong Kong Breeders’ Club and Duncan Grimley, a good friend of mine in Australia.

“We have syndicated him into 48 shares, 12 of which we have made available to purchase and most them have already been taken up by breeders who have supported the horse in his first season.

“Wrote oozes quality, he’s a beautiful horse with a great pedigree as a Group One Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf winner by High Chaparral out of a fantastic female family tracing directly to the blue hen mare Special.

“He covered 85 mares in his first season which is significant considering the volume and quality of first season sires of offer last season and the fact that he arrived late in the season.

“We can’t wait to see his foals this spring and we are already taking bookings for this breeding season, in which his book will be limited to 100 mares and his fee will remain the same at $5,000.”

The winner of three of his 11 starts and Group placed three times under trainer Aidan O’Brien for Coolmore, Wrote shuttled from Northwest Stud in Ocala, Florida last season.

“He was purchased by a Venezuelan group in a racing package from Coolmore and in America he’s already had a couple of two-year-old winners and a stakes performer from a handful of runners,” Gillovic said.

“Personally, I didn’t think he was suited to shuttling. He arrived here very light in condition, but he has put on 50kg since the season and he’s looking absolutely magnificent now.”

Wrote’s sire High Chaparral, who passed away in 2014, is well known to New Zealand breeders, having crossed famously well with Kiwi mares, to produce horses the ilk of So You Think, It's A Dundeel, Shoot Out, Descarado and Monaco Consul.

High Chaparral’s progeny have enjoyed another remarkable season with Melbourne Cup winner Rekindling and Victoria Derby winner Ace High among his winners.

Wrote's dam Desert Classic (Green Desert) hails from one of the best stallion families in the world. Her third dam is Special, the mother of Nureyev and grand-dam of Sadler's Wells and Fairy King.
