Vacancy: Senior Stud Groom

The above role has arisen to join Highview Stud’s family operated Thoroughbred Stud farm, just minutes from Hamilton.

The Senior Stud Groom role is an exciting opportunity to grow your career in the industry.

Work will be on a fulltime basis, a minimum of 45 hours per week, offered only to NZ residents. The start date will be approximately February 2024.

Responsibilities include:

• Handling and education of foals including weaning.

• Assisting with feed runs, feeding out silage and paddock movements.

• General stable duties and facility maintenance including mucking out, cleaning troughs and basic fence and trough repairs.

• Holding horses of all ages for the farrier and assisting with vet work.

• Record keeping of daily procedures, treatments, movements, and sick horses.

• Administering vaccinations, drenches and sedations when required.

• Assisting with reproduction work, teasing, prepping mares for service and holding mares in the serving barn.

Skills Required:

• Excellent handling skills with horses of all ages and the ability to work in all areas of the farm.

• Able to provide equine medical care, including IV and IM injections, bandaging, poultices and to recognise illness, injury, and abnormalities.

• Must be highly organized, flexible, willing to work alone along and within a team co-operatively.

• Must have a minimum of 4 years of Thoroughbred horse stud experience along with a professional and positive attitude and outstanding work ethic.
